Born on Oct. 4, 1926 to Biagio and Hertha Monzillo, he grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. and led a life full of service to others.
Monzillo served in the Army Air Corp during WWII, Transit Police of New York City and following that, 25 years of service to the New York Fire Department.
After retiring from New York, he became fire chief in Willimantic, later moving to the Danbury department for several years.
Monzillo is survived by his wife, Ruth (Whitmore) Monzillo, and his children Nancy Humbyrd, Susan (Henry) Smith and Keith (Christine) Monzillo. His grandchildren are Laurie (Jim) Simmer, Jason (Wendy) Fairservice, Tammy (Brian Gadoury) Smith, Kevin (Kristen) Smith, and Krista (Luke) Turano.
His sister, Rose (Leonard) Haynes shared many happy memories through the years and their sorrow at the loss of a brother, Edward.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Hurricane Fund, 13600 Caspian Lane, Clermont, Florida 34711 will further his commitment to his faith family.
